Richard Bandler: Co-Inventor Of Neuro Linquistic Programming (NLP)

Richard Bandler is an American author and psychologist who co-invented the emerging practice of behavior therapy called “Neuro Linquistic Programming” (NLP) based on the works of Milton H. Erickson. Although NLP is quite different in purpose and technique, it is often referred to as conversational hypnosis as well due to its common origin and tenets and similar techniques.

Richard Bandler, working with John Grinder (the other co-inventor of NLP), studied the conversational hypnosis language patterns used by Milton H. Erickson, and defined what they called the “Milton Model”.

Richard Bandler and John Grinder coined the term, Neuro Linguistic Programming, based on the connection between one’s neurological processes, language and behavior patterns acquired over time by learning from experience (i.e., programming), and how this inter-connection can be changed and used to achieve your goals or change your life. NLP is a philosophy of psychotherapy to alter the relationship between one’s patterns of behavior and thought.

Though largely ignored by conventional social science circles, NLP is designed for and often results in rapid results for the patient. Because of its short history (created in the 1970’s) and lack of clinical trials or large sample population, NLP is rarely covered in textbooks and professional journals. Instead, it is generally taught in seminars, workshops, and in digital products (e.g., ebooks and audio ebooks).

HOW TO LEARN MORE ABOUT CONVERSATIONAL HYPNOSIS:

One of Richard Bandler’s students, Steve G. Jones has adapted the work of Richard Bandler and created a short audio course called, “Ultimate Conversational Hypnosis:. This excellent course gets directly to the point by explaining how to do a large number of conversational hypnosis techniques such as mirroring and reading a person’s behaviorisms to tell what they are really thinking, when they are lying, and how to best build rapport; how to secretly command them to eagerly do what you want; how to improve your relationships and dating; how to effectively use powerful, hypnotic words in normal conversation; and more. Steve G. Jones used to live in Beverly Hills, California where he worked with many Hollywood celebrities. Now, he lives in Atlanta, Georgia and still practices as a clinical hypnotherapist and author.

For those who want to know a lot more … including “Why” conversational hypnosis techniques work, Igor Ledochowski (also a student of Richard Bandler and John Grinder) has created what is probably the most popular and most authoritative self study audio course in the world on conversational hypnosis. Igor Ledochowski’s course is much more comprehensive and even includes a complete audio course on Ericksonian Hypnosis (the original techniques created by Milton H. Erickson, the founder of conversational hypnosis) for free. Igor Ledochowski (pronounced Led-o-hof-skee) is an Austrian lawyer, author, hypnotist, and master NLP trainer.

As you might expect, Igor Ledochowski’s more comprehensive course is more expensive, but both Steve G. Jones’ “Ultimate Conversational Hypnosis” course and Igor Ledochowski’s “The Power of Conversational Hypnosis” course are truly excellent.
