How To Perform The Pendulum Suggestibility Test

Want to learn a fun trick you can use to amaze your friends and co-workers and actually tell the future at the same time?

It is called, the Pendulum Test, and it’s really a hypnosis suggestibility test to see how well conversational hypnosis will work to covertly command others to willingly do what you want … and it also makes a great tool to predict the future.

Here is how the Pendulum Suggestibility Test works:

Get anything that can swing with a weight at the bottom … like a pendulum. The best thing to use, especially at a party, is a pendant-type necklace (request something worn close to the subject’s body to increase the mystique of the technique), but you can also tie a pen to the end of a string if that is all that is available.

Instruct the subject to hold the weight in their dominant hand (i.e., right hand if they are right-handed) and the other end of the string or necklace in his or her other hand. Then ask the subject to raise the string up and gently lower the weighted end until it is dangling freely in the air.

Now, ask the subject to hold the string perfectly still while you ask the subject a few questions. Tell them not to swing the pendulum, but simply let it answer your questions. Point out the pendant will swing in several directions to answer questions; it can swing side-to-side, front-to-back, and in a circle (clockwise and counter-clockwise).

Each of these directions has meaning. First, ask the pendulum which direction means “yes”. Pause and wait for the pendulum to swing in a definite direction; it will swing for about 9 out of every 10 people. Then still the pendulum and ask which direction means “no”. Finally, ask which direction means, “I don’t want to answer or I don’t know.”

By now, everyone … including the subject herself … will be amazed, but not as much as they’re going to be.

If the pendulum does not swing clearly after a minute or so, explain that it doesn’t work on about 10% of the population. Then ask if anyone else would like to try. However, if you got a clear response, proceed to more interesting “yes-no” questions.

What Questions Should You Ask?

Ask questions that the subject is capable of knowing, but don’t ask anything overly embarrassing or too personal … for example, stuff the subject would not want the crowd to know. By the way, “questions the subject is capable of knowing” doesn’t mean they consciously know they know the answer.

For example, you can’t expect the subject to know what the stock market will do next week, what the weather will be, or what someone else is thinking. You can ask questions such as, “Is your favorite color blue?” or “Will you go to the Caribbean in the next 12 months?” Yes, you can actually ask questions about the future … questions the subject may know or believe subconsciously even if they don’t know they know.

Why Does The Pendulum Suggestibility Test Work?

Obviously, the pendulum is not moving itself, and it’s not being moved by some external force or entity. The pendulum works when the subject’s subconscious mind knows the answer, and it causes minute movements which are magnified by the string holding the pendulum. This is why you calibrate the pendulum first by asking what means “yes”, “no”, and no answer.

Of course, the subconscious mind doesn’t always know the correct answer, but it does know what it believes is the answer. And for the subconscious mind, there is no difference between what it believes and reality; to the subconscious mind, they are the same.

In fact when your subconscious believes something, it guides your actions and reactions to verify what your subconscious believes. This is why self hypnosis works; it is a method to alter what your subconscious believes … and makes it real.
