Conversational Hypnosis In Real Life

Michelle was young and had just recently graduated from college and moved to the town of Catonsville, just outside of Baltimore, MD. She was excited about her new job and starting out life on her own.

Unfortunately, she was still driving the old Ford Fiesta her Dad bought for her back in high school; it was 5 years old way back then. It was still running well enough, but she noticed it was starting to whine every time she slowed down. The brakes were worn.

So, Michelle did the logical thing and took her Fiesta down to a local garage in Arbutus, MD to get the brakes checked. After about an hour and a half waiting in the smelly lounge with nothing to do but look at beat up car magazines and watch TV with terrible reception, the mechanic walked in with a big greasy smudge on his forehead.

The mechanic said, “The disks are shot and we can’t grind them down anymore, because they will be out of spec. We’ll have’ta replace ‘em”. But you’re in luck, cause I still have two in stock.”

“Oh … well, how much will that cost?” Michelle asked.

“They run about a hundred dollars each, plus about $68 miscellaneous shop parts, recycle costs, fuel surcharges, and taxes. Add in labor, and the whole job will cost you about $580”, said the mechanic.

“$580?” Michelle exclaimed. “I don’t have that much?”

“Well, what d’ya wanna do?” asked the mechanic.

“I guess I’ll have to keep driving it awhile until I get that much money saved up,” Michelle said feeling totally deflated.

The mechanic asked for her name and phone number, so she handed him her business card. And with that, she drove away.

Later, she was talking to her friend Steve, a clinical hypnotherapist, about the problem. Steve suspected some foul play especially when Michelle pointed out she had never had the brakes replaced before. “Why would the disks be ground low enough to be out of spec if they had never been ground since she owned the car?” Steve wondered.

So, Steve suggested she go back to the garage in the next few days, and he told her exactly what to say. …

Michelle did as Steve asked, and the mechanic asked her to wait in the lobby for a moment. The mechanic came back, and said he spoke with the manager. The manager said he was glad she came back, because he had pulled her business card out of a bowl they were keeping in the back, and she won a $500 service credit.

Michelle left that day with a new set of disks and brake pads with a “life of the car” guarantee … and a big smile on her face … for a total cost of only $78.

What did Steve say, and why did it make such a drastic difference?

As mentioned above, Steve is a certified clinical hypnotherapist, but Steve is also trained in conversational hypnosis … which is really not hypnosis at all.

However, both hypnosis and conversational hypnosis both deal with communicating with the subconscious mind. The difference is with conversational hypnosis, you communicate with the subconscious while the subject is fully awake, interactive, and completely unaware of your subtle, hidden communication with his subconscious.

When Michelle said what Steve suggested to the mechanic, she was speaking to his conscious mind with the obvious dialog. But simultaneously she told his subconscious to do what she wanted using a concept called embedded commands … and it worked!

This is a true story. The names and the details of the events were modified a bit, but this really did happen. Conversational hypnosis really does work, and you can use in many different ways to improve your life.
