Peace dollars are a great way to own silver, but they are a bit rare. They are generally bought in bags from distributors which means you will pay a commission and premium for this type of silver.

Thus, the only remaining viable option … which also happens to be the most popular way to buy silver … is to buy American silver eagle dollars. Unless you go for “mint quality” sought by collectors, these silver dollars are most likely to have the lowest mark up and commissions. More importantly, the American Eagle Silver coins are still readily available from wholesalers who buy the coins directly from the U.S. Mint.
